The word “mushroom” can also be used for a wide variety of gilled fungi, with or without stems, and the term is used even more generally, to describe both the fleshy fruiting bodies of some Ascomycota and the woody or leathery fruiting bodies of some Basidiomycota, depending upon the context of the word.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sx0hj5EiemI/AAAAAAAAAUM/vyXPt_uodWk/s1600-h/Mushrooms1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It is built into the side of a mountain. For support cross-beams were built into the side of the mountain while the back of the mountain provides additional support. There were two principal reasons for building a temple in such an odd location; the mountain provided relief from rain, snow and other natural hazards. The other reason is the Taoist principle of no noise. At that height and isolation they needn't worry about that! In the temple itself there are relics that reference to the three main religions of China: Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, which is also a unique attribute of this monastery.<br /><br />The Hanging Temple, located about 60 km southwest of Datong, China in Shanxi province, is one of the world's forgotten wonders. Clinging to a crag of Hengshan mountain, in apparent defiance of gravity, it consists of 40 rooms linked by a dizzying maze of passageways. The temple is said to have been built by a monk named Liao Ran, during the late Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534 AD) and restored in 1900.<br /><br />The temple was constructed by drilling holes into the cliff side into which the poles that hold up the temples are set. Interestingly the temple is dedicated to not just one religion, but three, with Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism all worshiped within the temple and represented in 78 statues and carvings throughout the temple.</span> </p><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SxSXlEUlULI/AAAAAAAAAS0/rHsyOgKWLvM/s1600/Hanging_Temple_02.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; But he never gave up! His recovery has amazed surgeons after almost two years undergoing a series of operations. The vice-president of the hospital where this 37-year old Chinese man has been treated said: “He is amazing and the only person in the world to survive having so much of his body amputated.” He’s doing well now and has opened his own bargain supermarket - called the Half Man-Half Price Store. That’s incredible. It seems nothing can get him down…<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1beYtrBtI/AAAAAAAAAOs/0YsFqc9KTG0/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-002.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1beYtrBtI/AAAAAAAAAOs/0YsFqc9KTG0/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408079305130051282" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bemWJMBI/AAAAAAAAAO0/8YnH61IKUVE/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-001.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 218px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bemWJMBI/AAAAAAAAAO0/8YnH61IKUVE/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-001.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408079308789461010" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bXHSwboI/AAAAAAAAAOk/3nKBOA_lpzc/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-003.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bXHSwboI/AAAAAAAAAOk/3nKBOA_lpzc/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408079180194672258" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMwnQNmI/AAAAAAAAAOc/6aS0VVpBLPE/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-004.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMwnQNmI/AAAAAAAAAOc/6aS0VVpBLPE/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-004.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408079002307933794" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMvJ_KgI/AAAAAAAAAOU/BwodumSw6HA/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-005.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 211px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMvJ_KgI/AAAAAAAAAOU/BwodumSw6HA/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408079001916746242" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMTGQK7I/AAAAAAAAAOM/hpW4KpxdRcs/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-006.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bMTGQK7I/AAAAAAAAAOM/hpW4KpxdRcs/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-006.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408078994384890802" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bL5Dc8XI/AAAAAAAAAOE/L5nIi4gbVEM/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-008.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bL5Dc8XI/AAAAAAAAAOE/L5nIi4gbVEM/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-008.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408078987393823090" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bLge9VpI/AAAAAAAAAN8/wpDar3iHsZ8/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-009.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 221px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1bLge9VpI/AAAAAAAAAN8/wpDar3iHsZ8/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-009.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408078980798305938" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1a6fi3_DI/AAAAAAAAAN0/xb8E-qS873A/s1600/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-010.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw1a6fi3_DI/AAAAAAAAAN0/xb8E-qS873A/s320/Living-with-Half-of-a-Body-010.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408078688488520754" border="0" /></a>Priya Karthikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01576321876472526079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3177835034052196167.post-35232648195535634402009-11-25T03:21:00.000-08:002009-11-25T03:33:45.212-08:00Eight of the World’s Most Unusual Plants<h1 class="title"><span style="font-size:85%;">Eight of the World’s Most Unusual Plants</span></h1><br />Weird is relative. What seems weird to me might not seem weird to you. In the plant kingdom, however, there are definitely some species that most people would acknowledge are highly unusual.<br /><br /><em><strong>1. Rafflesia arnoldii</strong></em>: this parasitic plant develops the world's largest bloom that can grow over three feet across. The flower is a fleshy color, with spots that make it look like a teenager's acne-ridden skin. It smells bad and has a hole in the center that holds six or seven quarts of water. The plant has no leaves, stems, or roots.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0VQxfOiiI/AAAAAAAAANU/gBDivQ1Hnbg/s1600/2000329833222739293_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 274px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0VQxfOiiI/AAAAAAAAANU/gBDivQ1Hnbg/s320/2000329833222739293_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408002105448237602" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0TZeK0RrI/AAAAAAAAALs/kEvLYbIXqCo/s1600/2003640549756197625_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0TZeK0RrI/AAAAAAAAALs/kEvLYbIXqCo/s320/2003640549756197625_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408000055857923762" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><em><strong>2. Hydnora africana</strong></em>, an unusual flesh-colored, parasitic flower that attacks the nearby roots of shrubby in arid deserts of South Africa. The putrid-smelling blossom attracts herds of carrion beetles.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0TsqEc1uI/AAAAAAAAAMc/rVVQBlUYJ1g/s1600/2001348574948645778_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 310px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0TsqEc1uI/AAAAAAAAAMc/rVVQBlUYJ1g/s320/2001348574948645778_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408000385469961954" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0VRI0UVjI/AAAAAAAAANc/3NB7RGBBesA/s1600/2000520055228493939_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0VRI0UVjI/AAAAAAAAANc/3NB7RGBBesA/s320/2000520055228493939_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408002111710713394" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><em><strong>3. They have strange bark that looks like bubbles of chocolate, multiple trunks, and ferny-looking leaves growing in spirals. They can grow up to 125 feet tall.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0T6fPVj-I/AAAAAAAAANE/UG6jrGnMb5Q/s1600/2000216505048123259_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0T6fPVj-I/AAAAAAAAANE/UG6jrGnMb5Q/s320/2000216505048123259_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408000623081000930" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0T6uIxPZI/AAAAAAAAANM/OReQpTxRPzo/s1600/2000250933307622506_rs.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 235px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sw0T6uIxPZI/AAAAAAAAANM/OReQpTxRPzo/s320/2000250933307622506_rs.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408000627079986578" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><em><strong>6. Some varieties can grow up to Four feet long (120cm). They can be feisty, though become tamer with age to the point of eating from your fingers, and not the fingers themselves. The Arowana Fish comes from somewhat primitive origins (Jurassic Age), and some varieties are nicknamed “Bony Tongued Fish”.<br /><br />Arowana fish are carnivores, though will generally eat nearly anything. Young Arowana Fish may be fed frozen or live brine shrimp, black worms, and even small fish. When older, some larger fish will do. Baby Arowana Fish should be fed maybe 3 times a day, medium sized twice a day, and adults once a day, or even once every other day. Variety is important for a well balanced diet in Arowana Fish just like for most other fish.<br /><br />The Arowana eating habits produce a lot of waste and you should therefore, pay extra attention to water conditions (Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate) in your aquarium. Changing 25% to 33% of the water weekly is advisable, or better yet, 20% twice a week. You should maintain the pH neutral. Pay particular attention to the temperature and pH ranges suggested below on the various species, since if you have it too warm, it might cause them to age faster, look less Arowana, and even shorten their life. A to cold temperature might on the other hand kill them.<br /><br />Generally, a good healthy Arowana Fish will grow to be at least 24 to 30 inches (60-75cm). Some varieties can become 48 inches (120 cm) in the wild. They may be aggressive (definitely not good community fish), and Arowana fish can sometimes be best kept alone in an aquarium. Remember that other smaller fish in the tank may become their dinner.<br /><br />Arowana fish will often swim in the top of the aquarium, and are capable of jumping from the aquarium. Keep the aquarium well covered to avoid coming home to a dead pet. Silver Arowana Fish in the wild have been known to jump at insects in trees.<br /><br />Arowana Fish may live for many years, and if well cared for Arowana fish may live longer than 20 years in captivity. If you keep the aquarium temperature towards the lower end, they may look young longer than they would in a higher temperaturel. Please pay particular attention to each Arowana Fish’s needs below.<br /><br />The Asian Arowana or Golden Arowana (Scleropages formosus) is considered an endangered species. Care should be taken to follow the law in purchasing and transporting them. Asian Arowana fish generally can grow to about 36 inches, and are often much more expensive then the other Arowana species. These are well known and popular South East Asia where they are believed to bring luck. Feeding them healthy Guppies, Gold Fish, Frogs, or Shrimp makes a good stable diet. The temperature is best kept between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 C), and a pH level between 7.0 and 7.5 are advisable.<br /><br /> <center> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYrrqNauI/AAAAAAAAAIk/5m5YxQk-cAg/s1600/scleropages_formosus_4.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYrrqNauI/AAAAAAAAAIk/5m5YxQk-cAg/s320/scleropages_formosus_4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407161441344908002" border="0" /></a><br /> Asian Arowana - Scleropages formosus. Copyright <a href="http://www.jjphoto.dk/" rel="nofollow">www.jjphoto.dk</a> </center> <br /><br />The Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) comes from the Amazon Basin. They can grow to around 48 inches in the wild, and are usually the cheapest Arowana species. Silver Arowana can be more jumpy then the other species and more than one Silver Arowana have jumped to their death in a badly covered aquarium.<br /><br />Silver Arowana may take a while to adjust to non-live food. Sometimes to the brink of starvation. Feed them meaty food like, fish, crab, or Shrimp (try to avoid the salt). This Arowana Fish thrives in temperatures between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 C), and pH between 6 and 7. Young Silver Arowana should not be in a tank shorter then 36 inches/ 90 cm, and as they get older, 48 inches/ 120 cm though when your Arowana fish reaches 15 inches/ 40 cm they will need a much larger tank. These Arowana Fish can become aggressive towards similar species and should be kept alone in the aquarium tank unless it is very big. They can also be kept with larger catfish and a few other species. They are a definitely predator and will eat smaller fish. As juveniles, they may be suitable for smaller home aquarium, though with growth, they are likely to outgrow the home and become suitable only for large public aquariums.<br /><br /> <center> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYsFVyOyI/AAAAAAAAAI0/riJLBjxdoRU/s1600/osteoglossum_bicirrhosum_adult_3.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYsFVyOyI/AAAAAAAAAI0/riJLBjxdoRU/s320/osteoglossum_bicirrhosum_adult_3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407161448238562082" border="0" /></a><br /> Silver Arowana - Osteoglossum bicirrhosum. They can grow to around 36 inches/ 90 cm (they do however only seldom reach this length in an aquarium), and are less sought after then the Asian Arowana. They are also called Dawson River Saratoga, Southern Saratoga, Spotted Barramundi, Australian Spotted Arowana, and Leichardti Saratoga. They tend to stay closer to the bottom than other Arowana fish species. This means that it sometimes is possible to keep them with Silver Arowana fish. As far as food, they are capable of eating most things that will fit their mouth (crickets, Hikari pellets, insects, etc). This Arowana fish species prefers a temperatures between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 C), and a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. They may be territorial and aggressive.<br /><br /> <center> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYq8JHScI/AAAAAAAAAIU/d_joVCIZOgI/s1600/scleropages_leichardtii_1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYq8JHScI/AAAAAAAAAIU/d_joVCIZOgI/s320/scleropages_leichardtii_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407161428589627842" border="0" /></a><br /><br /> Spotted Arowana - Scleropages leichardtii. They can grow to around 36 inches/ 90 cm. They are also called Northern Saratoga, Jardine Saratoga, Gulf Saratoga, Australian Gold or Pearl Arowana and Jardini Saratoga. They eat similar food as the Spotted Arowana (Southern Australia), and are less likely to jump out of the tank than other species (though they might). This variety of Arowana Fish is best kept at a pH level of 6.0 - 7.5 and temperatures of 72 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (22-27 C). While less aggressive then others, they are still predators and will likely eat anything that will fit in their mouths. They will eat Crayfish, Fish, Insects, and pellets with a little effort to get them started.<br /><br /> <center> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYrWq-SfI/AAAAAAAAAIc/Wugkv74-4GQ/s1600/scleropages_jardinii_3.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYrWq-SfI/AAAAAAAAAIc/Wugkv74-4GQ/s320/scleropages_jardinii_3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407161435710966258" border="0" /></a><br /> Northern Arowana - Scleropages jardinii. This Arowana Fish prefers temperatures between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 C) and a pH level of 6.7 to 7.5 (7.0 preferred). They eat shrimp, fish, live worms, and insects in captivity.<br /><br />The Black Arowana fish (Osteoglossum ferreirai) comes from South America in the Rio Negro basin. They grow up to around 40 inches / 100 com, though they seldom reach this length in captivity. The Black Arowana fish eat live fish, large insects, spiders, Tubifex worms, and may also eat pellets and flakes (not all specimens accept pellets and flakes). Young Arowana fish of this species tend to be delicate, though older fish tend to be more hardy. They prefer a pH level of 5-7 with 6.4 being the optimum level, and temperatures between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 C).<br /><br /> <br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYr9eWd-I/AAAAAAAAAIs/ww_kcCURL_E/s1600/osteoglossum_ferreirai_1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwoYr9eWd-I/AAAAAAAAAIs/ww_kcCURL_E/s320/osteoglossum_ferreirai_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407161446127007714" border="0" /></a>Priya Karthikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01576321876472526079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3177835034052196167.post-40900787838107991882009-11-21T09:38:00.000-08:002009-11-21T09:40:44.273-08:00Chinese Giant Salamander<p><strong>Chinese Giant Salamander</strong></p> <p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwgmCEU4HrI/AAAAAAAAAIM/x6yCZqJll6s/s1600/chinese-giant-salamander.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 181px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwgmCEU4HrI/AAAAAAAAAIM/x6yCZqJll6s/s320/chinese-giant-salamander.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406613169621180082" border="0" /></a></p><br />Something tells us these <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_salamander">giant salamanders</a> were never called for in any witch’s recipe. Seriously, look at that thing! That lives under some people’s <em>porches!</em> The United States is also home to a giant salamander called the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_salamander">Hellbender</a>, and it’s…well, the name fits. However, it is not as endangered as the shockingly strange-looking Chinese cousin. twin fish conjoined at the StomachThe Nile Tilapia fish is a common freshwater species found in tropical rivers, canals, lakes and ponds but these two were found in a Bangkok aquarium.<br />The fish can reaches a maximum of 2ft in length and can weigh up to 9lb.<br />Originally from waters stretching from Africa to the Cape Horn, the fish was introduced to freshwater irrigation systems so as to fight algae growth but has now become a pest.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" helps its sibling, while the smallerone searches for food.<br />Behind shrimp and salmon Nile Tilapia is the third most imported fish to the U.S.<br />It is not the first time Siamese twins have been discovered in the animal kingdom.<br />In July, a pair of barn swallows conjoined at the hip by skin and muscle tissue, were found in Arkansas.<br />The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission said it was a 'one in a million - probably more than that - occurrence'.<br />When discovered by officials the birds were not eating, and one died, while a veterinarian later put the other down.<br />Experts say finding conjoined birds is rare because they likely die before being discovered.<br />They believe the birds came from a double yolk egg.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try ManLiew Thow Lin is known as the "Magnetic Man" of Malaysia, because of his incredible ability to stick metal objects to his body. After a deep medical study, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) lecturer Nasrul Humaimi Mahmood said this ability was probably associated with "suction properties in his skin." Professor Dr. Mohamed Amin Alias, from UTM's electrical engineering faculty in Johor, agreed. After seeing Liew perform, the professor did research on the matter, and decided, "His skin has a special suction effect that can help metal stick to it." "These powers are not an illusion," he said, "That is why his two sons and two grandchildren also have the magnetic-like ability. They have his genes." Dr. Atsusi Kono, former chief physician at the Djo Si Idai Hospital in Tokyo, was so impressed with a Russian he saw doing this stunt, that he commented: "There is absolutely no doubt that the objects stick as if their bodies were magnetic." Dr. Friedbert Karger of the Max Planck Institute in Germany, in January 1997, investigated another "magnetic man" named Miroslaw Magola who was born in Poland in the 1960s, and was able to demonstrate the ability "to pick up a cup from the floor without touching it, and to control its suspension in mid-air."<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwQgc4IrNcI/AAAAAAAAADs/40MnI9aeP7U/s1600/Magnetic-Man-001.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 303px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwQgc4IrNcI/AAAAAAAAADs/40MnI9aeP7U/s320/Magnetic-Man-001.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405481133228635586" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwQgdAoq-_I/AAAAAAAAAD0/ZDeJDMKqzn4/s1600/Magnetic-Man-002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 158px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/SwQgdAoq-_I/AAAAAAAAAD0/ZDeJDMKqzn4/s320/Magnetic-Man-002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405481135510322162" border="0" /></a>Priya Karthikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01576321876472526079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3177835034052196167.post-10434407839666250952009-11-16T09:22:00.000-08:002009-11-16T09:32:45.549-08:00A journey to the miraculous and secret world of animals.<span style="font-weight: bold;">A journey to the miraculous and secret world of animals.</span><div style="font-weight: bold;" class="post-excerpt"> </div> <div class="KonaBody"><p>Every creature, as the art of the God, keep secrets and miracles inside it. We, as human, are the only creature who has an ability to thinking. Various animal kinds have different features to survive in wild nature. Some of them are discovered by scientists in the history. Surely not! But this man could, not a single one but many!!! K. Muthukumar, of North Pudhugramam, Kovilpatti, Toothukudi District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, have stayed with black ants for Seven days continuously - that too in well packed jute sack. There were totally 10,000 ants inside the sack and Muthukumar stayed with them for continuous 7 days and nights, without taking any food. Some ants did bite him and large number of dot like dimples were found on his body. Many of the ants found dead after seven days.Priya Karthikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01576321876472526079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3177835034052196167.post-39003725574123369452009-11-14T09:45:00.000-08:002009-11-14T09:55:42.720-08:00Very strange fish with monstrous teethBelow photos show the carcass of a very strange fish with monstrous teeth allegedly washed up on a beach in Tampa Bay, Florida<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sv7t0xmiE3I/AAAAAAAAABc/5OLz7YNPoFI/s1600-h/freaky_fish_6.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sv7t0xmiE3I/AAAAAAAAABc/5OLz7YNPoFI/s320/freaky_fish_6.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404018093815108466" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sv7t1d5k3VI/AAAAAAAAABk/7ePQVl867IE/s1600-h/freaky_fish_1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rQONT3wCfxw/Sv7t1d5k3VI/AAAAAAAAABk/7ePQVl867IE/s320/freaky_fish_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404018105706143058" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="country-region"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="place"></o:smarttagtype><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:worddocument> <w:view>Normal</w:View> <w:zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:compatibility> <w:breakwrappedtables/> <w:snaptogridincell/> <w:wraptextwithpunct/> <w:useasianbreakrules/> </w:Compatibility> <w:browserlevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if !mso]><object classid="clsid:38481807-CA0E-42D2-BF39-B33AF135CC4D" id="ieooui"></object> <style> st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } </style> <![endif]--><style> <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} p {mso-margin-top-alt:auto; margin-right:0in; mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; margin-left:0in; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style><!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} </style> <![endif]--> <p>Actually, these snapshots were circulating well before the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004 and were previously alleged to have been taken in the Philippines.
